COMMITTEE REQUIREMENTS AND SELECTION PROCESS:
All committee members must be current members of COMTO SoCal in good standing.
The Executive Board will review all the volunteer applications and open committee positions. If we find that your expertise is a good fit for a committee, we will reach out to you via email to confirm your interest in serving on the assigned committee.
Committee members are expected to be an active participant in their committee. Committee members should be respectful, timely, and responsive towards their committee chair and committee members.
Meeting commitments will depend on the needs of the committee. Most committees meet once a month, but may be more frequent leading up to events.
Committee appointments will be reviewed by the Executive Board on a yearly basis.
Committee members may be added or removed from a committee at any time at the discretion of the Executive Board.
Business & Professional Development Committee
James penn, CHair - christine choi, CO-CHAIR
Coordinates and plans learning opportunities to support professional development for all members and firms, recognizing their differentiated needs. In addition to other professional development events, this committee is responsible for coordinating the CITY Intern Program and Garrett A. Morgan Day.
Corporate Sponsorships Committee
Demauris Terry, Chair - theodora oyie, co-chair
Coordinates the Chapter’s fundraising efforts. This committee along with the Chapter President sets an agenda to raise scholarship and sponsorship funds along with members of the Executive Board.
Legislative Committee
JAMES PENN, Chair - jennifer trotter, CO-CHAIR
The Legislative Committee is responsible for researching and educating our members on legislation that effects the Transportation industry. Also responsible for outreach to community leaders along with the Chapter President and Executive Team.
Membership Committee
JANAYRE BERTRAND, ChaiR - tony eguavoen, CO-CHAIR
The Membership Committee is responsible for generating ideas as to the recruitment of members. Also responsible for the development of programs designed to attract additional members and the modification of existing membership eligibility criteria, subject to the review and approval of the Board of Directors. This committee is responsible for coordinating the onboarding of all new members.
Scholarship Committee
EDNA STanley, ChaiR - KATHIE ALLEN, CO-CHAIR
The Scholarship Committee is responsible for providing scholarship opportunities for high school and college graduates. The committee is also responsible for educating members on the scholarship application process, marketing and promoting scholarships via the COMTO website, local chapters/media, colleges/universities/high schools and word-of-mouth advertisement.
Election Committee

This Special Events Committee oversees the planning process of the SoCal Women’s Leaders Award event. This committee sets a budget, selects a venue, selects the guest speakers and works with the Executive Team to raise sponsorship funds. In conjunction with the Chapter president selects the award recipients. This event is held each spring.
