Scholarship Program

The Southern California Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) is pleased to announce its 2019 Scholarship Program. COMTO is a national, multi-ethnic, non-profit organization founded in 1971 to address multi-cultural transportation needs and issues. COMTO is committed to the professional, educational, and business development of its members. 

COMTO SoCal has assumed an active role in the minority community establishing numerous programs that energize and strengthen the communities we serve. COMTO SoCal has established many programs, including annual scholarship awards. COMTO SoCal believes education is a core foundation for excellence in the transportation and any other field of study. Our scholarship program is committed to providing financial support to minority students to help them maximize their educational potential. We invite you to apply for our scholarship. 

SCHOLARSHIP DESCRIPTION

COMTO SoCal offers a variety of scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $3,500 to deserving students in the region. The number of scholarships and the amounts for the 2018-2019 academic year will be determined following a review of the applications and donations received. Selections are made by a team of industry professionals and/or representatives from the academic community.

Applicant Requirements:

  1. U. S. citizens currently enrolled full-time as High School seniors, undergraduate students or graduate students in a transportation industry related academic program at an accredited college, university or vocational-trade school.  All eligible students are encouraged to apply.  Applicants must be able to describe their short and long-range professional career goals in an essay (See Career Interest Essay requirement, Item B, page 4).   

  2. Members of a racial minority group (African American, American Indian, Alaska Native, Asian American, Hispanic American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, and other races).

  3. Applicants must either be a resident of Southern California or attending a college or vocational-technical school in Southern California.

  4. High school graduates or College Students with a declared academic major for fall 2019.

  5. Applicants must have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or above.

  6. Applicants will be required to verify information.

  7. Applicants must be either a COMTO student member or referred by a member of the COMTO Southern California chapter

  8. Winners are required to attend the COMTO-SoCal Scholarship Award Event. (Parents can accept for awardees; Scholarship funds may be mailed to the winners after the Scholarship award event.)

  9. Students may receive scholarships a maximum of two times from the COMTO-SoCal Regional Chapter.
